The British Council is delighted to announce the opening of applications for the British Council Earth Scholarships 2025, which aim to facilitate worldwide research collaborations between PhD and Early Career Researchers, Scottish HEIs, and academic mentors.
The scholarship aims to provide research opportunities and worldwide mobility in order to explore and support novel approaches to addressing the global climate catastrophe, as well as to promote long-term research and cultural exchanges.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for British Council EARTH Scholarships 2025, applicants must complete the following requirements:
- Applicants must be currently registered for a PhD, or graduated with a PhD at any non-UK university, which broadly falls under Arts & Humanities subject areas.
- Open to PhDs/ECRs registered for or with completed PhDs from outside the UK but will particularly welcome applications from countries in the Global South.
- Demonstrate excellent academic and research abilities.

How to Apply for British Council EARTH Scholarships
H0w-to-Apply: Interested applicants for the British Council EARTH Scholarships are to complete an online application via the Programme’s webpages.
Applicants will need to create an account on the system, using an email address (ideally an institutional email address) which you check regularly. Applicants will need to identify an academic mentor and a host higher education institution (HEI).
Required Documents:
- A full research proposal and details of how you will benefit from Cluster membership, cohort-building, training and development activities.
- A budget and justification of resources.
- A CV (up to 4 pages).
- A letter of support from your PhD supervisor (up to 2 pages).
- A letter of support from the proposed Host Institution (Head of Department or equivalent) up to 2 pages.
