ARES International Training Scholarships to Study in Belgium 2026/2027

Applications are now open for the 2026/2027 ARES International Training Scholarships. This call for proposals is part of the ARES International Training programme, which aims to build the capacity of young professionals from partner countries by providing them with specialized training or continuing education in Belgium.

Requirements for ARES International Training Scholarships

The candidate must:

  • Be a permanent resident and work in one of the 31 eligible countries (list below). Exception: Palestinian nationals are eligible even if they do not reside in one of these 31 countries.
  • Be a holder of:
    • For specialised masters and continuing education courses:
      • hold a degree comparable to a 2nd cycle diploma (300 ECTS credits) from a Belgian university;
    • For specialisation baccalaureates:
      • hold a diploma comparable to a 1st cycle diploma (180 ECTS credits) from Belgian higher education.
  • Demonstrate at least two years’ relevant professional experience in an ARES partner country.

Benefits

The scholarship includes:

  • International travel expenses: Economy class on an IATA airline, maximum one return trip per
  • academic year
  • Subsistence allowance: Monthly package for 12 months (+13th reduced month)
  • Exceptional costs associated with visa applications (only for bachelor’s degrees and specialised master’s degrees);
  • Tuition fees (only for bachelor’s degrees and specialised master’s degrees);
  • Indirect mission expenses (for continuing education only);
  • Insurance costs.

Duration

  • Bachelor’s and specialised master’s degrees: 12 months maximum.
  • Continuing training: 2 to 6 months maximum.

Application procedure for ARES International Training Scholarships

The application procedure is online via the GIRAF platform. Do not send any personal data (passport photos, copies of diplomas, etc.) by e-mail. If you receive such a request by e-mail, it is probably a phishing attempt.
