Brief Description of the PhD Program

The research of the group of Prof. Dr. Eva Freisinger is focused on the investigation of metallothioneins from different organisms. MTs are rather small cysteine-rich proteins with the ability to coordinate a number of transition metal ions. The positions are standard full-time PhD positions, formally designated 60% based on the officially assigned salary class.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in theoretical chemistry

Brief Description of the PhD Program

The PhD project will deal with development and application of novel, accurate approaches for the study of functional compounds. A possible direction of the project is the development of advanced dynamic approaches for detailed and realistic study of reaction mechanisms and reaction networks considering in a sophisticated manner environmental effects (also under catalytic conditions).

This can include the development of advanced enhanced sampling approaches and embedding techniques for highly accurate description beyond the DFT level / at catalytic conditions (possibly also combined with machine learning). Additionally, the project(s) may be carried out in close collaboration with experimental or other computational groups.

Brief Description of the PhD Program

Earth history is rich in examples of extreme climatic changes. The Carnian Pluvial Episode (CPE) ~234–232 Ma ago was one such event, which caused minor extinctions but major ecological changes, and initiated the evolution and radiation of modern plant families, including bennettitaleans, modern fern and conifer groups. In the SNF Joint project, various successions in the Dolomites, Julian and Carnic Alps, Switzerland and Northern Calcareous Alps will be investigated together with the Museum of Nature South Tyrol, Bozen/Bolzano, Italy.
