Applications are now open for the Rubika Excellence Scholarship for Kenya 3D Animation Students 2025

The French Embassy in Kenya partners with Rubika Valenciennes, Europe’s leading school in animation studies, to offer an excellence scholarship to one Kenyan animation graduate.

The successful laureate will be given the opportunity to undertake a one-year-long, intensive 3D animation training program at Rubika Valenciennes (France). The scholarship will cover school fees, flight transportation, and accommodation and include a living grant for one full academic year (September 2025 to June 2026).

The Rubika Excellence Scholarship is a testimony of France and Rubika Valenciennes’ commitment to support the structuration of the Kenyan animation industry and foster the development of long-lasting collaborations between French and Kenyan animation ecosystems.

Benefits for the Rubika Excellence Scholarship

• One academic year spent at Rubika Valenciennes (France) to study 3D animation (courses to be provided in English)
• Mandatory French language classes.
• Tuition fees covered up to 90% (tuition fees total value: 9100€/year)
• Transport from Nairobi to Valenciennes (flight and train tickets)
• Medical insurance
• A monthly allowance to cover life expenses and accommodation

Eligibility criteria

• Degree: Bachelor of Arts (or equivalent) obtained between 2022 and 2025.
• Availability to commit to the full program, between September 2025 and June 2026
• High proficiency in 3D animation skills
• Financial contribution: The successful candidate will be expected to contribute 800€(about 120.000 KSH) towards tuition fees.
• Having a passport valid until the end of 2027

Note: In case the successful candidate wouldn’t be able to pay it upfront, this contribution can be paid in several installments over the course of the academic year as a small fraction of the laureate’s monthly living allowance.

Timeline

• May 2nd, 2025: Call opens.
• May 23rd: Application deadline.
• May 26th–28th: finalist interviews with an international jury (via videoconference).
• May 30th: announcement of the laureate.

• Originality and technical quality of the portfolio.
• Candidate articulation and communication skills
• Alignment of the candidate’s professional project with the scholarship objectives
• Academic excellence
