Join a World-Class Research Team Studying Drug-Resistant Bacteria
The Cox Lab, part of the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, focuses on understanding the genetic and molecular mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Gram-negative pathogenic bacteria such as Escherichia coli. This high-priority research has global implications, especially as Gram-negative bacteria have proven resistant to many existing treatments due to their complex outer membrane and efflux pump systems.
Graduate students will explore:
- Efflux pump function in E. coli
- Molecular mechanisms driving outer membrane permeability
- Novel cell envelope-associated drug targets
- Chemical leads for next-generation antibiotic therapies
