Dr. Mei Yang in the Department of Geosciences at Mississippi State University (MSU) is seeking highly motivated Ph.D. and M.S. students to join the research team in Spring 2026 or Fall 2026.

Candidate Qualifications
- Applicants should hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field, such as geography, GIS, environmental science, remote sensing, climatology, agriculture, public health, etc. Strong quantitative, geospatial, or interdisciplinary research skills are highly encouraged.
Research Directions and Leadership
Dr. Mei Yang is a tenure-track assistant professor in the Department of Geosciences at MSU. Her research focuses on the integration of GIS, spatial analysis, quantitative methods, and artificial intelligence (AI) to address critical public health challenges.
The lab investigates the impacts of environmental exposures, transportation systems, human mobility, and sociodemographic and genetic factors on health risks and disparities. Ongoing projects include modeling chronic disease and cancer risks, analyzing healthcare accessibility patterns, examining associations between transportation and disease, and applying AI techniques for predictive health analytics. Students with interests in geospatial data science and health geography are especially encouraged to apply.
