The Australian Government Research Training Program 2025 is now open to international students who wish to study in Australia for the 2025 academic year. This program offers both domestic and international students the opportunity to pursue fully funded postgraduate research studies.
Successful students are provided block grants through higher education providers (HEPs) on a calendar year basis to assist their pursuit of research doctorate and research masters degrees, known as higher degrees by research (HDRs).

The following eligibility conditions apply for the Postgraduate Research Training Program Grants and Scholarships in Australia
- To be eligible for aย RTP Stipend, RTP Fees Offset or RTP Allowancea student must be aย domestic studentย or anย overseas studentย enrolled in an accreditedย HDRcourse of study at an Australianย HEP.
- To be eligible for aย RTP Stipenda student must not be receiving income from another source to support that studentโs general living costs while undertaking theirย course of studyย if that income is greater than 75 per cent of that studentโsย RTP Stipendย Income unrelated to the studentโsย course of studyย or income received for the studentโsย course of studyย but not for the purposes of supporting general living costs is not to be taken into account.
- To be eligible for aย RTP Fees Offseta student must not be receiving an equivalent award or scholarship from the Commonwealth designed to offsetย HDR

Scholarship Benefits
- Anย RTP Fees Offsetpays for the tuition fees of a higher degree by research (HDR) student that would otherwise have been paid by the student. This requires that a university to fully offset tuition fee applicable for a student. This is not a stipend.
- Anย RTP Stipendto assist students with their living costs while undertaking a higher degree by research.
- RTP Allowancesto assist students with ancillary costs of a higher degree by research (HDR). This includes relocation costs to undertake aย HDR,ย HDRthesis printing and academic publication costs and health cover costs for recipients and their dependents.
