The Australian Government Earmarked Scholarships are now accepting applications from interested and eligible domestic and international students seeking to enrol in a PhD degree program at the University of Queensland for the 2024/2025 academic year.
The Australian Government funds Earmarked Scholarships to help PhD candidates with their living expenses and tuition fees. These scholarships allow PhD candidates to contribute to big initiatives of national relevance and collaborate with outstanding researchers.

Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility requirements for Australian Government Earmarked Scholarships are as follows:
- Applicants must have completed someย research experience
- Applicants must have completed anย approved university degreeย and
- Applicants who can meet theย English language requirements.
Approved degrees
An approved degree needs to be:
- In an area relevant to your proposed PhD project and
- Completed no more than 10 years ago.
You need one of the following approved degrees to apply for a PhD:
- Master of Philosophy (or another research masterโs degree);ย or
- Bachelorโs degree from an approved university withย at least honours class IIAย or equivalent;ย or
- Coursework masterโs degree with an overallย grade point average of 5.65ย on the 7-point UQ scale which includes relevant research experience, approved by the dean;ย or
- Postgraduate degree (at least one year full-time or equivalent) with an overallย grade point average of 5ย on the 7-point UQ scale, together with demonstrated research experience equivalent to honours class IIA will be considered on a case-by-case basis; or
- Bachelorโs degree plus at least 2 years of relevant research experience, including research publications.
Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants of the Australian Government Earmarked scholarships will get the following benefits:
- Living stipend of $35,000 per annum tax free (indexed annually)
- Your tuition fees covered, and
- Single Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
