The Australia Awards Africa scholarships 2025/2026 is now accepting applications. The application portal opens annually for citizens of eligible African countries to apply for Australia Awards Scholarships (master’s degrees) or Australia Awards (short courses).
The Australian government annually sponsors a number of African students and professionals to study in Australian universities as well as some selected African universities through fully funded scholarships.

The Award Categories
The Australian Awards Scholarships are awarded in two categories, namely:
- Australia Awards Scholarships: to undertake higher degree studies in Australia at Masters level.
- Australia Awards Short Courses: to undertake short-term, targeted professional training courses, in Australia and/or in Africa, in a range of development-focused sectors.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants applying for the Australia Awards Africa Scholarships must meet their country’s eligibility requirements. However, the general eligibility conditions include the following:
- The applicant must be a citizen of an eligible African country, residing and working in their country of citizenship or working in another African country.
- The applicant must possess a minimum academic requirement: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Must not already hold a Masters Degree
- Applicant must be a mid-level to senior-level professional, currently employed in a relevant field
- Applicant must meet relevant post-graduate work experience requirements
- Applicant must demonstrate a clear vision of how the knowledge gained through the scholarship will be used to improve policy, practice or reform in their home country
- Applicant must satisfy English Language proficiency to enable full participation in a training course delivered in English
- The applicant must satisfy all requirements of the Australian Government for the appropriate student visa (subclass 500).
Scholarship Benefits
Scholarships are usually fully funded covering the following:
- Return air travel
- A one-off establishment allowance on arrival
- Full tuition fees
- Contribution to living expenses
- Introductory academic program
- overseas student health cover for the duration of the scholarship
- Supplementary academic support
- Fieldwork allowance for research students and Masters by coursework, which has a compulsory
- Fieldwork component
- Disability support and reasonable adjustments for people with disabilities (assessed on a case-bycase basis).
