In 2011, higher education in Sweden ceased to be free for EVERY student, but it remained free for citizens of Sweden, the EU/EEA, and Switzerland. Government funding is used to operate these institutes. Few universities are permitted to charge students tuition fees that are not covered by the grant. The tuition for an overseas student varies based on the school, the degree of study, the location, and other factors. These factors might add up to 8000 EUR or more every year.
